Love, Pain and the Tattoo Master

I don’t like hurting people while tattooing them. I learned tattooing from a man who was hurting.

Can a person’s pain make someone a master of a job they never knew before?

Who knows, maybe.

I don’t know what time it is. It is night. I am coming back from the bar. I walk inside.

Oops. Darkness.

Nothing can be seen in the hall. Another kind of darkness. Even blackness inside the dark.

My pupils slowly adjust to the surroundings. My fingers reach out carefully, searching through the darkness. There is only one sound.

I approach the silhouette. I bend down. His hair has fallen over his face, and I cannot see him.

I call out, “Master…”

No sound.

I move closer.

“What’s wrong?”

The answer comes from somewhere very deep, as though it is climbing out of a dark well using its fingernails. It struggles through his vocal cords.

“I can’t breathe.”

I lift my head and look around the room. I understand.

The room is becoming brighter, but the house is silent, dark and breathless because love has gone.

Love left him inside that room. It even took his soul from inside his heart and left the man transparent, like a white ghost.

He has forgotten how to breathe.

He doesn’t want to look around the room because the red hair is no longer there. There is nothing left in the house except the remains of the previous night.

He looks at the popcorn scattered in the corner. Pieces of hearts are scattered everywhere.

What is happening?

There is nothing to do now. You need to take the broom and sweep the broken pieces of the heart from the floor.

It is time for a change.

You are trying to sweep while learning an apprenticeship.

The master is sad. I am sad anyway.

After a while, someone takes the master to a friend of his. It is a place I don’t know, with a different atmosphere, almost like another country.

But it is a beautiful place. A sunny beach, yachts and beautiful cars.

We enter a small shop where it feels as though the sun never sets. The place is nice. There is music. Rock ’n’ roll is playing.

I love it.

Where is this place?

A new beginning is about to start. A job will be taken from the master. The conditions are suitable. A suitable tattoo parlour.
